Craftmakers in Peru found it difficult to negotiate decent terms of trade and fair prices for their products. So in 1992 a group of craft associations decided to found and organisation through which they could collectively demand more. Today CIAP has members all over Peru and works with 1500 craftmakers and offers a whole range of services from forming craft associations, developing products to marketing and social events. CIAP is also a member of IFAT (the World Fair trade Organization).
Through CIAP Llamarama works with a wide range of craft associations and makers including Tika Rumi in Villa El Salvador one of the shanty towns, near Lima where much of our jewellery is made, and also with many knitting and weaving women’s groups in the Andes.
